We rescue felines and canines from a wide variety of situations- trapped in foreclosed homes, abandon and starving on the streets, cats next in line at the pound to be euthanized, abuse/neglect situations, etc.  It seems every time we think we've seen it all- we learn of a new rescue situation or abuse case. Pets just want to be loved and to give love back. They ask so little of us, yet give so much in return. One of our number one source of rescues are from animals abandon in empty homes. The typical situation has become- the owner becomes terminally ill or passes away- family and friends are in such a frenzy trying to make arrangements and the pet(s) becomes overlooked. The pet owner no longer has the ability to communicate to others that his/her pet needs to be cared for. Time passes by- and the pet is either neglectfully let outdoors or a pound is called and the beloved pet is euthanized. No pet owner wants to have this situation occur to their furry friend should something happen to them. It is imperative that future plans be made as early as possible- so that you can be certain your pet will be properly cared for in the event something should happen to you. It is something none of us want to think about- but if we love our pets, it is something we are forced to plan for if we want to be responsible pet parents. There are several options for planning ahead. All too often, pet owners believe they have a family member, neighbor or friend who will take their pet in the event of their own illness or death- and sadly, all too often those designated individuals do not follow through with their promise. Working together with a no-kill, cage free organization and having your requests placed in writing- is crucial when planning ahead for your pets future. Please read through the following options we have outlined below and address any specific questions to Advocates 4 Animals Estate Planning Lawyer and/or your personal Attorney.  Leaving behind a legacy to help support the animals of today and tomorrow is one of the greatest gifts you can give to your pets.

Trusts for your Pets

You may be aware that it can be a very long process to settle an estate. It may be best for you to set up a Trust for your pet.
A trust can provide for your pet IMMEDIATELY and can apply if you are incapacitated. The creation of a trust will set aside
funds that can be utilized for the care of your pet and YOU can specify the trustee. Please contact Advocates 4 Animals
if you are interested in specifying our organization as your pets designated trustee.  In addition, it may be wise to
create a Power of Attorney (POA) document that allows the attorney-in-fact to take care of your pets needs and
even to place the pet with the permanent care giver (which can be designated as Advocates 4 Animals, if desired).
Please contact Advocates 4 Animals Feline Rescue & Rehabilitation group today at willsandtrusts@advocates4animals.com
if you would like to learn additional information about Trusts for your Pet(s).
